Fire in Greece app for iPhone and iPad

When you are living or travelling in Greece, you better check out this app.

Global warning has increased the risks related to nature fires. Before you go out on the road, you can check where the latest fires are detected by the NASAs MODIS satellite. Dont get trapped on the road in between fires, like what happend on June 18 2017 to so many people.

You can tap and hold on the pins to see the date and time the fire was detected by the satellite. When you hold and move your finger to other pins close by it will update them dynamically. It is possible that you see some alerts from over the border, this is done to be sure to not miss alerts close-by the border.

The FIRMS program, which uses this satellite, was developed by the NASA to provide near real-time active fire locations to natural resource managers that faced challenges obtaining timely satellite-derived fire information. The satellites pass over the earth 2 time per day, and their detections are broadcasted to our server 3 hours after flyover.

Note that the app needs an internet connection to work, but roaming in Europe is now free, so EU tourists can also use it at will without international data charges.
